In the year 2076, the starship Lancer embarks on a mission to discover interstellar civilizations, led by astronaut Nigel Walmsley, who possesses unique insights from his prior alien encounters. As he warns of a galactic threat posed by advanced machines determined to eradicate organic life, his theories go unheeded until the crew stumbles upon desolate planets dominated by these A.I. entities.
