In 13th century Europe, the Fool's Guild employs jesters and tricksters to manipulate political events amidst chaos. Theophilos, a seasoned Guild member recovering from near-fatal injuries, unexpectedly takes on a new mission alongside his apprentice and wife, Viola. As a crusade brews in Venice and tensions rise over a Byzantine pretender, the couple must navigate treachery in Constantinople, unravel the mysterious disappearance of the Guild's agents, and work to maintain the delicate balance of power—all while striving to survive.
