In the village of Eldmere, a missing person case leads DI Adams to a parallel mystery involving a young dragon named Gilbert. As the Toot Hansell Women's Institute and various monster hunters pursue the dragon, the peaceful valley becomes a battleground for cryptozoologists and hopeful adventurers.
