A War Inherited

A War Inherited explores the complex history of Vietnam leading up to the American involvement, highlighting the French struggle for independence, the significant events at Dien Bien Phu, and the early years of Viet Minh organization and resistance. The book examines the period from 1945 to 1954, emphasizing key moments like the famine that bolstered Viet Minh authority and the evolving role of U.S. aid, while presenting balanced perspectives from both Vietnamese and Western sides. It provides an honest, detailed account of contested figures and significant milestones, setting the stage for the later, more widely known phases of the Vietnam War.
