The Foundations of Western Philosophy: The Republic, the Ethics, the Politics, the Poetics and Three Dialogues (Annotated)

This volume features seven complete, historic English translations of key works by Plato and Aristotle, including the Republic, Apology, Phaedo, Phaedrus, Nicomachean Ethics, Politics, and Poetics, offering a rich exploration of foundational Western philosophy. Notably, it highlights the unfinished nature of Aristotle's Politics and the ending of Plato's Republic, prompting reflection on the relationship between storytelling and classification. Complemented by a critical afterword and a biography of both philosophers, this edition invites readers to examine the contrasting approaches these ancient thinkers took toward the purpose of books and dialogue.
