The Apparition

Set in 13th-century Delhi during a time of chaos, "The Apparition" by M.G. Vassanji explores the collapse of an empire through the lens of myth, history, and fantasy. As a strange luminous presence appears in the sky, the city—and its ruler—are transformed by the arrival of winged beings offering peace and order, only to reveal darker beneath the surface. The novel follows Amir Hassan al-Shirazi as he investigates this miraculous event, uncovering the complex and often perilous truths behind power, faith, and human resilience. Blending historical and speculative fiction, it offers a thought-provoking meditation on the rise and fall of civilizations.
