"The Gods of Mars" is the second book in the classic Barsoom series, first serialized in 1913 and later published as a novel in 1918. The story picks up with John Carter's return to Mars after ten years on Earth, reuniting him with loved ones and the Martian people he considers his own. The novel begins in the Valley Dor, the Barsoomian afterlife from which no one escapes, setting the stage for an adventurous continuation of Carter's story on the red planet.
