An extraordinary novel from David Peace, this story explores the life and legacy of Japan's renowned writer Ryunosuke Akutagawa, set against the backdrop of Japan’s turbulent Taisho period. Drawing inspiration from Akutagawa’s stories, essays, and letters, the book presents a compelling narrative that delves into the passions, obsessions, and complexities of the artist’s world. Envisioned as a haunting, intense tribute, it also examines the broader themes of storytelling, creativity, and the role of the writer in society.
