The Club

Prize-winning biographer Leo Damrosch explores the fascinating story of "the Club," a gathering of renowned writers, artists, and thinkers who met weekly at a London tavern starting in 1763. Centered around the dynamic friendship of Samuel Johnson and James Boswell, the group included influential figures like Edmund Burke and Adam Smith, whose ideas helped shape their era—and ours. Through vivid storytelling, Damrosch captures the vibrant, competitive, and sometimes brutal world of late 18th-century Britain.
