A Hard, Cruel Shore

In 1809, Captain Alan Lewrie faces a turbulent start to the year as he navigates challenges involving his battered ship, HMS Sapphire, and urgent efforts to keep her afloat amid wartime shortages. Promoted to Commodore, Lewrie is tasked with leading a squadron on perilous missions off the treacherous coast of Spain, where danger from the sea and enemy forces looms large. Basing out of Lisbon and hopeful for personal as well as professional pursuits, Lewrie prepares for a potentially tumultuous year at sea filled with uncertainty and adventure.
