Set in East Africa just before independence, this story explores the complex interplay of African, Asian, and European cultures vying for influence. A group of young American teachers arrive, bringing ideals and adventure to the exotic landscape, where they experience personal growth through friendships, romance, and challenges. As they make a mark on Africa, the continent, in turn, leaves a lasting impact on them.
