This audiobook explores the history of psychiatric care in Ireland, beginning with the establishment of the Richmond Lunatic Asylum in 1814 and its nationwide expansion. It examines Ireland’s unique historical context, where by the mid-20th century, a significant portion of the population was confined in mental hospitals. The narrative offers a look into the experiences of patients within these institutions and the broader societal attitudes towards mental health over time.
