A Heroine of Charity

Saint Louise de Marillac, born in France, faced personal loss early in life and initially desired to become a nun, but her path changed after her husband's illness and death. Guided by influential figures like Saint Vincent de Paul, she co-founded the Daughters of Charity, a community dedicated to caring for the sick, poor, and neglected children, which grew rapidly across France. Despite her health challenges, Louise traveled extensively to establish her community in hospitals and orphanages, leaving a lasting legacy of compassionate service. She was canonized in 1934, recognized for her enduring commitment to charity and social service.
