The Dark Road

Meili, a young woman living in rural China, marries Kongzi, a descendant of Confucius, and becomes pregnant in a society with strict population control policies. When authorities arrive to enforce family planning rules, the family must go on the run along the Yangtze River to escape arrest. The story explores their perilous journey and the challenges they face as fugitives.
