An anti-gravity machine propels Peter Schock and Kate Dyer back to 18th-century London, triggering a series of events that impact both the past and present. As a police hunt begins for missing children in the 21st century, the criminals of 1763, led by the elusive Tar Man, steal the device and vanish into the underground world. Stranded in time, Peter and Kate pursue the Tar Man to his lair with the help of Gideon Seymour, a reformed thief and their guide.
