George McGlory, a recent widower and part-time librarian, is moved by a lonely, unattended funeral and decides to take action. He teams up with a diverse group of colleagues to create The Light a Candle Society, aiming to bring comfort to isolated funeral attenders. As they work together to honor the dead, George also reflects on his own life, confronting personal challenges and family rifts.
