Set along the Maine coast in 1753, this story follows the Oberstrasse family as they seek a new life amid wartime upheaval, including French and Indian attacks and the growing struggle for independence from Britain. Johann, initially a farmer, adapts to the frontier by becoming a carpenter and militia captain, experiencing both triumph and personal loss.
