In 1834 Salem, Massachusetts, Howard Egan leaves his life at sea to pursue new opportunities, quickly becoming a successful businessman and falling in love with Tamson Parshley, whose beauty and hardness surprise him. Caught in a tense struggle involving a Mormon missionary and a powerful anti-Mormon figure, Howard faces dangerous conflicts that threaten his faith, his business, and his chance at love. As anti-Mormon sentiment rages, he must navigate loyalty, faith, and personal risk to secure his future amidst turmoil.
