Chester Aldair, a gay teenager who dies by suicide before reaching the age of seventy-five, is marked as a criminal in a future society where natural death is abolished. Under the law of "The Age of Volition," individuals are required to live until seventy-five, with the option to extend their lifespan thereafter. As Chester navigates his circumstances, he comes to see that he is not alone in hiding secrets, and he begins to understand the importance of protecting his own life.
