Set in 1870 during the Franco-Prussian War, this story follows Colonel Jouve, who is hospitalized and increasingly fragile. As news of military successes and defeats reach Paris, his granddaughter and the doctor devise a plan to maintain his hope by creating fake reports of French victories. Tensions rise as the true state of the war unfolds, culminating in the Prussian entry into Paris and a dramatic revelation of the truth.
