Prince Tal and Alexandria arrive in Markingham, a city struggling with starvation, disappearing children, and a weakened defense, as they seek to defeat the Dark Queen and destroy the Veil. Their plans are threatened by a formidable army led by a giant centaur and internal conflicts, including a rival militia leader with her own dangerous ambitions.
