Herb Lawson, a Vietnam War veteran, returns to New York City and takes on work as an apprentice jeweler, while dealing with debts to a dangerous loan shark. When his former sergeant recruits him for a mercenary mission in Africa amid the Zimbabwe war of independence, Lawson faces the challenges of wartime and personal struggles. Navigating shifting allegiances, dangerous circumstances, and his own inner demons, he seeks to find his place in a tumultuous environment.
