Sir Patrick Moore (1923–2012) was an English amateur astronomer, broadcaster, and prolific author. He began publishing astronomy writing with Guide to the Moon in 1953 and went on to write hundreds of books, chiefly popular astronomy and space-science guides, along with some science-fiction and young-adult space adventures. He was also the longtime presenter of the BBC television series The Sky at Night.
