Margaret Mitchell (1900–1949) was an American novelist and journalist from Atlanta, Georgia. She wrote nearly 130 articles for the Atlanta Journal before a broken ankle ended her journalism career in 1926, after which she began writing Gone with the Wind. Published in 1936, the novel became a bestseller and won the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction; it was her only published full-length novel.
