Anne Carroll George was an Alabama author, poet, and longtime schoolteacher who began publishing poetry and literary prose before turning to mystery fiction. She wrote the eight-book Southern Sisters mystery series, beginning with Murder on a Girl’s Night Out, which won the Agatha Award for Best First Mystery. She also published the literary Southern-family novel This One and Magic Life and several poetry collections, including Some of It Is True, which received a Pulitzer Prize nomination.
