Rufus Frederick King (1893–1966) was an American novelist, playwright, and screenwriter best known for Golden Age detective fiction. After serving in World War I and spending several years abroad, he began his writing career in the 1920s, creating series detectives including Reginald De Puyster and Lieutenant Valcour. His 1929 novel Murder by the Clock introduced Valcour, who became the central character in an eleven-book series, and King continued publishing crime novels and mystery short stories through the 1960s.
