Esther Forbes (1891–1967) was an American novelist, historian, and children’s writer whose career began with editorial work at Houghton Mifflin and the publication of her first novel, O Genteel Lady!, in 1926. She became known for historically researched fiction set in colonial and revolutionary New England, including A Mirror for Witches and the Newbery Medal-winning Johnny Tremain. Her biography Paul Revere and the World He Lived In won the 1943 Pulitzer Prize for History.
