Eli Zaretsky is an American historian and author whose writing focuses on the social, cultural, and political history of psychoanalysis, modern family life, capitalism, and the intellectual left. He is the author of Capitalism, the Family and Personal Life, Secrets of the Soul: A Social and Cultural History of Psychoanalysis, Political Freud: A History, and Walter Benjamin: A Very Short Introduction. He is Professor Emeritus of History at the New School for Social Research, and his scholarship has appeared in numerous academic journals.
