Walter Dumaux Edmonds (1903–1998) was an American novelist and short-story writer from Boonville, New York. After graduating from Harvard, where he edited the Harvard Advocate, he began publishing fiction and made his debut with Rome Haul (1929), drawing heavily on the Erie Canal and upstate New York. His best-known novel, Drums Along the Mohawk (1936), became a bestseller and was adapted into a 1939 film; he later wrote extensively for young readers, earning the Newbery Medal for The Matchlock Gun and the National Book Award for Bert Breen's Barn.
