Russell Shorto is an American author, historian, and journalist best known for richly researched narrative histories. He writes about the origins of New York and Amsterdam, the American Revolution, science and religion, immigration, and family history, and has contributed regularly to The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, and other publications. He is director of the New Amsterdam Project at The New York Historical and senior scholar at the New Netherland Institute.
