He is the award-winning author of novels including The Lion Trees, Mother Blues, and the Raymond Mackey mystery trilogy, as well as the short-fiction collections Signs of Passing and This Is the Dream. His work is known for literary prose, psychologically complex characters, suspense, and explorations of identity and human connection.
