A.L. Herbert is the pen name of Patrick Sanchez, who grew up in Prince George’s County and Charles County, Maryland. Sanchez began writing fiction in the early 2000s, previously publishing women’s fiction and chick lit under his own name. As A.L. Herbert, he created the Mahalia Watkins Soul Food Mystery series, launched in 2015, combining cozy crime, humor, African American characters, and soul-food recipes; he later lived in Virginia.
