Elizabeth Laird (born 1943) is an award-winning British children's author who began writing professionally after living and working in countries including Malaysia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Lebanon and India. Her novels explore contemporary social and geopolitical issues affecting young people, and she has also written picture books, folktale retellings and travel-related nonfiction. She has been shortlisted six times for the Carnegie Medal and helped establish a project collecting Ethiopian folk stories.
