She holds a PhD in English literature from the University of Georgia, where she wrote her dissertation on 19th-century vampire literature. Her writing career focuses on Victorian gothic romance and historical mystery, including the Sybil Ingram Victorian Mysteries series; With This Curse won the 2015 Daphne du Maurier Award for historical mystery/suspense.
