M. J. Robotham is the pen name of Mandy Robotham, a former journalist and midwife who earned an MA in Creative Writing from Oxford Brookes University. After writing historical fiction as Mandy Robotham, she began publishing historical novels under the M. J. Robotham name, including The Scandalous Life of Ruby Devereaux, Mrs Spy, and The Spy and the Snake. She is now a full-time author based in Gloucestershire.
