Elizabeth Kostova is an American novelist best known for her debut, The Historian (2005), which became the first debut novel in U.S. publishing history to reach No. 1 on The New York Times bestseller list. She later published The Swan Thieves (2010), The Shadow Land (2017), and Mystery Play (2026), and has also written short fiction, poetry, and essays. She co-founded the Elizabeth Kostova Foundation, which supports Bulgarian writers and translators.
