Lloyd Cassel Douglas (1877–1951) was an American minister-turned-novelist whose fiction presented Christian teachings through accessible, emotionally driven stories. He published his first major novel, Magnificent Obsession, in 1929 at age 51; it became a bestseller and was followed by other popular novels including The Robe, The Big Fisherman, Green Light, White Banners, and Disputed Passage. After retiring from the ministry, Douglas wrote full time, and several of his novels were adapted into films.
