Peter Carey is an Australian novelist and short-story writer whose career began with acclaimed collections including The Fat Man in History and War Crimes. He became internationally recognized for inventive, often historically grounded novels such as Oscar and Lucinda and True History of the Kelly Gang, both of which won the Booker Prize. His fiction frequently reimagines Australian history and explores identity, mythmaking, colonialism, and cultural memory; he has lived in New York City for more than twenty-five years.
