Tan Twan Eng is a Malaysian novelist who writes in English. Born in Penang, he worked as an intellectual-property lawyer before becoming a full-time writer. His debut novel, The Gift of Rain (2007), was longlisted for the Booker Prize, while The Garden of Evening Mists (2012) won the Man Asian Literary Prize and the Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction. His third novel, The House of Doors, was published in 2023 and longlisted for the Booker Prize.
