Nikos Kazantzakis (1883–1957) was a Greek novelist, poet, playwright, philosopher, and travel writer, widely regarded as one of the major figures of modern Greek literature. He wrote in Demotic Greek and became internationally known for novels including Zorba the Greek, The Last Temptation of Christ, and Christ Recrucified, as well as the epic poem The Odyssey: A Modern Sequel. His work combines literary storytelling with historical, religious, and existential themes.
