She began writing for Farm News while studying journalism and history at Iowa State University and has continued covering agriculture, business, food, and regional history for nearly three decades. Her books include A Culinary History of Iowa, Iowa Agriculture: A History of Farming, Family and Food, Classic Restaurants of Des Moines and Their Recipes, and several county histories.
