Francis Durbridge was an English playwright, novelist, and radio and television scriptwriter whose career began with the BBC in 1933. He created the gentleman detective Paul Temple, who debuted in the 1938 radio serial Send for Paul Temple and became the subject of numerous radio serials, novels, television productions, films, and stage plays. Durbridge was known for intricate crime plots, cliffhangers, and twist-driven suspense dramas that achieved international popularity.
