MJ Soni is a South African-born author and former eye surgeon and physician-scientist who began writing creatively after a community-center writing class. She is the author of the memoir Defying Apartheid and The Masala Chai Mystery Club, her debut cozy mystery, and her short stories have appeared in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine, Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine, Akashic Books, and Best New England Crime Stories. Her fiction draws on her Indian, African, and American heritage and is largely set in coastal New England.
