Richard Arthur Warren Hughes (1900–1976) was an English novelist, poet, playwright, short-story writer, and screenwriter. He published his first play, The Sisters’ Tragedy, in 1922 and wrote what is regarded as the world’s first radio play, A Comedy of Danger, in 1924. He became best known for his first novel, A High Wind in Jamaica (1929), and later wrote In Hazard and two volumes of the unfinished historical series The Human Predicament, while also producing poetry, children’s stories, and film scripts.
