Anita Shreve was an American novelist who began her career as a high-school teacher and freelance journalist before turning to fiction full time. She published more than fifteen novels, including The Pilot’s Wife, The Weight of Water, Testimony, A Wedding in December, and The Stars Are Fire, and also taught creative writing at Amherst College. Her work is known for its nuanced exploration of relationships, family, loss, betrayal, and historical upheaval.
