William Deresiewicz is an American author, essayist, and literary critic whose writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic, Harper’s, and The American Scholar. After earning a PhD in English from Columbia and teaching at Yale, he became a full-time writer. His books examine literature, education, culture, creativity, and the working lives of artists, including A Jane Austen Education, Excellent Sheep, The Death of the Artist, and The End of Solitude.
