Karen Woods is a Manchester-born novelist whose fiction draws on the people, places and working-class communities of the city where she grew up. After taking an adult-literacy course at 39, she began writing and went on to publish more than 30 novels, becoming known for gritty, character-driven stories about Manchester’s underworld, families and social struggles.
