Robert James Waller (1939–2017) was an American novelist best known for The Bridges of Madison County, a number-one New York Times bestseller later adapted into a major film and Broadway musical. He also wrote the bestselling novels Slow Waltz in Cedar Bend, Border Music, Puerto Vallarta Squeeze, A Thousand Country Roads, High Plains Tango, and The Long Night of Winchell Dear, along with essays and the photography book Images.
