David Donachie (1944–2023) was a British historical novelist best known for fast-paced maritime and naval fiction set largely in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. His first novel, The Devil’s Own Luck, was published in 1991, followed by the John Pearce, Privateersman Mysteries, Nelson and Emma, and other historical series. He also wrote under the pen names Tom Connery and Jack Ludlow, published 54 books, and served as chair of the Society of Authors from 2016 to 2020.
