Elena Wilkes grew up in Walsall in the West Midlands and worked for eighteen years in H.M. Prison Service. Her experiences with prisoners and the hidden realities behind seemingly ordinary lives inspired her fiction. She won first prize on the Curtis Brown “Beginning to Write Your Novel” course before publishing her debut psychological thriller, The Man I Married, followed by Keep My Secrets and later novels.
